The Nightlife in Panama City
With the signaling of the end of the day, the preparations for the night begin, Panama City isn’t nicknamed the Miami of the South for nothing. Panamanians are known for their love of late nights and the perpetual party. From the carnivals to the numerous nightclubs, pubs and bars one is sure to find a venue suiting your taste.
Some of the most popular areas within the city limits are the Amador causeway, Calle Uruguay and in the old quarter of Casco Viejo. If the gambling bug has bitten, casinos are aplenty and offer a variety of gambling activities, well priced drinks and excellent entertainment. The Veneto, located in the heart of the city offers a fantastic casino encompassing a 40,000 square foot area. They offer the entire table and card game range, as well as a host of slots and video machines; or if one is merely after the entertainment offered by large complexes, one will be pleasantly surprised with the karaoke evenings, live shows and dancing competitions – including the Salsa! Other casinos also well worth a visit are the Crown, Bingo 90 and Fiesta Casinos.
In the causeway offers the higher end of the scale entertainment and venues, and although somewhat pricey it will prove a night to remember. The causeway is located along the southern entry of the Panama Canal and offers splendid views of Panama City as well as the Bridge of the Americas. Recommended night venues in this area are Lemanja, P’ahya, Café Barko.
Calle Uruguay is a party person’s paradise, a hub of entertainment venues and all night socializing. Here one will find from a normal pub to an up market modern cocktail bar, it all happens in this central location. From the hard Rock Café to Club Next on Balboa Avenue the party rages on. Enjoy the Salsa dancing at La Bodeguita or for the all night treat of the Gallery in Calle 50, Plaza New York.
Hidden away in Casco Viejo, many venues offer the young and upcoming venues attracting a younger upmarket crowd. Las Bovedas and La Casona de las Brujas with live music, and who would have thought that an old public bathroom would be host to rock bands, go to Banos Publicos in Plaza Herrera for that alternative alternative rock. Reggae lovers are sure to enjoy S61S, while mainstream rock fans will be at home at Sahara.
Before one goes out it is best to learn how to order your favorite drinks, these will help you when you need to quench that thirst: Cerveza, which is beer, is served in a variety of ways – a jarra is a pitcher, a cubetazo which is a bucket of six beers or a torre being a tall tower of beer with a tap for serving, normally about ten beers. For wine lovers a vaso de vino will do the trick, as it refers to a glass of wine. If you want to go all out the order a botella – this is a bottle of alcohol and is served with two mixers and a bucket of ice. Don’t get started too early because the vibe usually picks up only after eleven.
