Shopping in Panama
If one is going to Panama for the shopping experience, you will have to start with the Colon Trade Free Zone, the second largest trade free zone in the world after Hong Kong. This expansive area has products to suit each and every taste and budget, as well as being the Trading Example and Showcase of the Central Americas. The area is an important supplier to surrounding trade free zones, and has created a modern facility with the capability of services these regions as well as the influx of tourists and shoppers to the Panama region.
Panama City has many shopping malls and a well established infrastructure to easily access these shopping venues. Most malls are open from Monday to Saturday, with a few operating on Sundays. The area of Via Espana in the Banking district is particularly nice to go shopping, as most areas are accessible via foot, and there are numerous shops located in and around the hotels and office blocks. The famous Central Avenue, which has been converted to a pedestrian zone include tax free shops and a lot of oriental crafts and fares, with oriental bazaars selling linens, souvenirs, rugs and the like. There are a number of restaurants and cafes around to relax and enjoy a lunch whilst out on your shopping expeditions.
Forms of payment in the shops in manner is by widely accepted credit cards and the United States Dollar.
