Panamas Drug victories from 2008
Panamanian authorities had a busy year in 2008
With the latest figures released on the war on drugs. The year heralded arrests of no less than 540 people, arrested for drug trafficking, whilst a total of $1,5 million was appropriated from 42 bank accounts involved with these illicit activities. Included in the confiscations were 209 vehicles and 700 cell phones, as well as a total of 51 tonnes of cocaine and 2 tonnes of marijuana.
Ten percent of all seizures were as a result of joint operations with the United States that were successfully conducted in international waters. The people charged with trafficking were mostly Panamanians, but included Colombians and Mexicans too.
