Cultural experts have expressed concern over the danger of the Panamanian Creole language being threatened, due to the fact that so few people are using the language. In addition to that another five native languages are also threatened. The Ministry of education has embarked upon an initiative to preserve this heritage, via an intercultural bilingual education program.

Tribes affected by the possible extinction of these languages include the Waunaan, Teribe, Bri-Bri, and Bugle, which under greater threat than that of the Embera, Kuna and Ngabere, which although also threatened are less vulnerable based upon the fact that these languages are spoken by greater number of people.

UNESCO confirmed via a study published this year, claimed that 1498 languages face the danger of extinction across the world.
