Marriot to Expand in Panama

Marriott International in Panama will reintroduce its stylish and upscale Renaissance hotel brand come 2011 under a new management agreement with the Hotel Properties of Panama. In addition, Marriott is planning an expansion to the existing properties and add two more additional hotels, more or less tripling its luxurious presence in this beautiful country. What started as an impressive hotel will be transformed into a 1,200-room hotel over the next thirty months or so.
The Renaissance Panama Hotel with 300 rooms will be located right in the heart of Financial District; a prime site adjacent to the existing Panama City Marriott. The two hotels will be physically joined, allowing guests to easily transfer from one hotel to another.
The hotel will be a mixed-use project; there will be two towers above the podium. The first tower will house offices and the other will house the luxury hotel and 150 unbranded residential condominiums above the hotel.
The Courtyard, still by Marriott Panama, will be expanded from a 120-room hotel to a 248-room hotel by the hotel owner, Grupo Poma who will also open the 150-room Courtyard near Los Pueblos Mall in Panama come 2010. Meanwhile, Caribe Hospitality is planning to open the 100-room Residence Inn Panama for extended-stay travelers; also in 2010. Final agreements on both Residence Inn Panama and Courtyard by Marriott Panama are expected to be implemented within the next 60 days.
Ed Fuller, president and managing director of Marriot international, is thrilled to introduce their Renaissance brand to Panama. He stated that the economic outlook of Panama is so strong that the hotel industry is expected to boom dramatically in the next few years. The addition of the new Renaissance hotel will offer guests a new and exciting lodging choice.
All five Marriot hotels in Panama area will feature rich bed and bath linens, impressive bath amenities, modern furnishings, a huge flat screen TV, mini-bar and a room-in safe. The hotel will offer lounge and executive level to their guests. For dining and entertainment purposes, the hotel will house a restaurant with access from the street that offers three meals daily. It will be set in a spacious, open lobby bar that will change ambience from day into evening; all lights scheduled to automatically change at the right time.
Recreational amenities will include an ultra-modern fitness center, a large outdoor deck and swimming pool area and 8,000-square foot spa. In addition, the hotel will house a business center and a gift/sundries shop. For conferences and social events, the Renaissance Panama City Hotel offers a 6,092 sq ft of function space which comprises of a 4,306-ft ballroom that can be divided into three sections of flexible boardroom and meeting space.
