Cholos Mexican Restaurant
Located between San Carlos and Las Palmas , just off the Inter-American Highway, Cholos Restautrant offers a typical Mexican feast in a laid back surfer themed restaurant. The layout of the restaurant is quite small, but intimate with the establishment well run by the owners, Owen and Mariella. The restaurant is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 12 until 10, and can be contacted on 6419-4064.
The ambience of the restaurant is enhanced by the personalized service and attention by the owners, whilst the authentic Mexican menu offers the traditional fajitas, burritos, tacos and many more typical dishes. All meals and food are prepared freshly on premises, with complimentary nachos. The portions are generous and the prices even more so. The venue gets an A+ for value. A very limited wine list is countered by Owen’s skills behind the bar, with his daily drink of the day.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Panama. Great Mexican food, good service and reasonable price. I recommend that anyone looking for a quality Mexican look no further! I always pop in here when i am in San Carlos.
We ate at Cholos twice and tonight we are going again! Visiting Panama after 21 years of traveling and living worldwide we found this jewel of a restaurant one of our absolute favorites. Great service and the food is the ‘real deal’. Fun to watch the American expats eat here, you can tell it is a favorite.

“Welcome to Cholos” rings out in Owen’s friendly voice every time the door opens…he even switches to Spanish if the faces seem to be Panamanian. Hot corn chips and salsa soon arrive on the table, while your choice of drinks are being personally prepared and served. The genuine smile continues all the while.
Impossible to complain about the food, served on baked clay stoneware, and the pinatas compete with the surfing videos for attention. Mariela and helpers are seen thru a window to the kitchen as they make sure every dish is just right. The tortillas are home-made, everything is fresh and there are even some special treats that are not on the menu. Do you like apple pie with icecream? Try it Cholos Mexican style. Hard not to order a second one!!!
From the Panama City side one has to spot the Texaco and Cholos on the same property, then continue on to the first U-Turn and double back. I promise it is worth the effort.
We make sure to eat at Cholos at least once a week. The friendly atmosphere and the owners’ “WELCOME TO CHOLOS!” greetings provide a “tranquility fix” for us.
Food is home-made even down to the corn chips. There are no wrong choices on the menu, and the prices are certainly friendly.
We understand a new expanded menu is coming out and we look forward to it.
I came to the Palmar area looking for surf, good food and relaxation. From the second that I entered the Cholos restaurant Owen and Mariella treated me as if I was family. I wanted to surf and Owen was nice enough to show where the waves were best that day and loaned me one of his boards, While he went back to work. The Restaurant seved up some of the best Mexican cousine, that I have ever had. I ate lunch and diner there each day. The locals that I met there seemed to come there as a meeting place to enjoy the warm hospitaility provided by Owen and Mariella. Thank you for the great experience, I hope to make it back this year and eat at their new location, enjoy some surfing and listen to good music at Cholos. Thanks again Owen and Mariella. Take care and god bless and keep those hot nachos coming !
Mariela and Owen…..I hope this is you. I have been trying to find you for such a long time. Is this your resturant? Dennis says hello and we would love to see yall.
