Chinese Ethnic Day Celebrated in Panama


chineseChinese Ethnic Group Day was acknowledged by the Panamanian government in 2004, and set for March 30 every year. The Chinese community has been very much involved with Panama over the last 150 years, and contributes towards the nation in various sectors and positions, amongst which include politics, culture and sport, to name but a few.

The largest Chinese community in Latin America resides in Panama, and totals an amount of 200,000 individuals, and according to historical records the first Chinese immigrants arrived in Panama to work on the Panama railroad, connecting Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The immigrants arrived via Jamaica and Canada, with the first arriving on March 30, 1854.
